Kathy Burwell is an occupational therapist with over 30 years experience in medical and industrial rehabilitation. She received her Bachelor and Master Degrees from San Jose State University in 1984 and 1986 respectively.

For the past 25 years, she has been doing ergonomic consultation and training programs for companies and individuals. Her focus is on prevention, early identification of ergonomic problems, education and training programs, and resolution of existing conditions. She has worked both in the medical insurance and workers compensation areas and private industry.

While federal and state entities have disputed the need for formalized ergonomic policy, many companies are taking a proactive stance on this issue. Repetitive strain injuries can have devastating effects if not caught and treated early. It has been shown that companies who implement preventative programs that include education and ergonomic evaluation reduce exposure to these injuries and reduce associated costs.
